Why I'm joining Defending Big D and what it means for this newsletter
My personal message and a little more about the move for the most loyal of you, my subscribers.
First of all, I'm honestly very grateful for those of you, who have subscribed to this substack, so far.
I thought about writing about Dallas Stars for some time before but eventually started only in April this year, once the regular season of 2021/22 reached its climax and we were preparing for the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
I wanted to prove to myself that what I'll write about might be interesting to at least some people. Talking hockey is a niche itself and writing about business side of things, contracts, CBA or cap management is really obscure and only suitable for those hardcore hockey fans. That's why I was honestly a bit surprised at the amount of positive reactions, which definitely didn't raise my self-confidence to a whole new level, ha-ha.
Given English is not my first and natural language, it was also a test if I can translate my thoughts and opinions into a digestible manner for a native speaker. Along the short, albeit a very interesting way of writing at this substack I've even made some new friends among people who either cover or follow NHL but mostly Dallas Stars in particular.
My audience and subscribers is 90% consisted from US based accounts and that's why it was natural for me to join a bigger platform, which Defending Big D definitely is.
I have been following the site ever since that magical 2015-16 season and it made me realize how insightful and also passionate Dallas Stars fans actually are about their hockey team. Some of the work by DBD authors like David Castillo, Robert Tiffin, Wes Lawrence or Taylor Baird and others have been also inspirational for me to start this substack of my own.
That's why I'm thankful to David for recommending me to join DBD and Taylor for this opportunity. I will be more than happy if you continue to follow my articles and I'm sure many of you already follow Defending Big D and are also active in the discussions.
I'm not giving up on this channel, either. I will focus on some really niche articles around here to extract everything I possibly can to write about the Stars and hockey in general in the most complete way I can. Writing is still a passion project for me alongside my personal family time and daily work in the financial world but I'm definitely more than eager to continue this and discuss Stars hockey as much as possible.
Don't forget to follow DefendingBigD on Twitter or also me, while you're at it so that you don't miss out on any important Stars content from yours truly! I have already prepared some fruitful pieces over there.
Bring on 2022/23!
Your English is excellent, I don’t foresee any problems for you in communicating your thoughts to your readers. I’m glad to find a site where I can read about the Stars in more detail; and hopefully the comments section won’t be filled with trolls and nonsensical bickering.
Awesome, JK! Congrats on the opportunity, I look forward to your work on DBD, keep it coming! Love your passion, and your work and ideas are always insightful! (yeah, cap gymnastics is a niche of a niche, but that doesn't make us weird, does it? ha!)
Cheers, Peace, Go STARS!
